Standards of Care

The primary role of the team at FVH is to exceed your expectations in caring for your pet. We treat your pets like they are part of our family too! We have a  professional, caring and devoted team to look after your pet. Anne, the principal veterinarian is a member of the Australian Veterinary Association abiding by its’ strict code of patient care.

The staff routinely attend further training, conferences and courses in their respective fields to reinforce we practice with the most up to date knowledge possible. Giving you and your pet the service and care you deserve.

Our caring starts at the end of the phone and continues after your pet is home!

Veterinarians

Dr Anne Dynon BVSc

Anne graduated from Melbourne University in 1973. Her first position was in Dubbo, NSW treating horses, cows, pigs, dogs and cats. A year later she moved back to Melbourne, and after a stint in horse practice decided to her passion was small animal medicine and surgery . After working in various Melbourne practices, Anne purchased Flemington Veterinary Clinic in 1989. A few years later the building was extensively renovated and upgraded to become Flemington Veterinary Hospital.

Anne has a special interest in veterinary dentistry as well as over 33 years experience in general small animal medicine and surgery. As an academic associate of Melbourne University Anne involved with training veterinary sudents at FVH. Anne has 4 pets, 2 cats Mischief and Merlow, a Bichon Frise Maggie and a mini wirehaired dashund Sophie .

Out of work Anne enjoys wining and dining, and walking. Anne is also a member of Flemington Rotary Club and a committee member of CIKA (Cancer in Kids Auxillary).

Dr. Alana Potgieter BVSc

Alana graduated from the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 2006. With her partner, who is also a vet, she started her career in Adelaide, South Australia, working with cats and dogs. She has since been home for a short while before taking off to Britain and extending her knowledge in small furry creatures like rabbits and guinea pigs.

After lots of travelling, she now wants to make Melbourne her next home, and loves the theatre, fine food, beautiful buildings and countryside Victoria offers. She likes to ski and ride horses whenever she can.

Her special interests are soft tissue surgery, radiology and ultrasonography, and wants to be your pet’s Number One partner in health.

Dr Li-Ming Soh BVSc

Li-Ming graduated from the University of Sydney and has since worked in a small animal practice in Singapore for the past 7 years.

She is currently enrolled in a Holistic Kinesiology course (complementary medicine for people and animals) and is enjoying the best of both worlds being a student and locuming part-time as a vet.

Her interests lie in all forms of complementary medicine from acupuncture, homeopathy, supplementation to crystals and herbal medicine etc and she hopes to pursue them all eventually. In the past, she has attended courses in veterinary acupuncture and used supplement therapy at her previous practice.

Dr Adoncia Thian BSc BVMS

Adoncia graduated from Murdoch University, Western Australia. After graduating, she returned to Singapore to work before embarking on a rotational internship for 2 years with the University of Melbourne Veterinary Clinic and Hospital.

Adoncia enjoys all aspects of small animal clinical work, especially surgery.

She lives with cats, Oscar and Kitten, a little terrier called Hooshi and a human called Ben. Adoncia loves adventurous foods, and endeavours to eat her way through all the restaurants in Melbourne.


Dr Uttara Kennedy BVSc MACVS

Uttara graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon from the University of Queensland in 2002. She has practiced in several clinics all over Melbourne, both in the capacity of a locum and a full-time veterinarian. She always held a keen interest in all matters of Animal Welfare, and in July of 2008 she attained membership to the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in the chapter of Animal Welfare.

Uttara acts as a locum veterinarian for Flemington Veterinary Hospital, whenever one of its permanant vets goes away on holiday.

Uttara originally comes from the mad, colourful city of Mumbai, India. She pursues Odissi, an Indian classical dance form in her spare time. She has been in Melbourne for over 5 years, and thinks it is the best city in the world!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr Caitlin Blake BVSc

Caitlin Blake-Lane started her veterinary career in high school when she began working as a vet nurse in Glen Iris.  She went on to graduate in Veterinary Science from Melbourne University and then moved to Sydney to follow her dreams of working as a racehorse vet.  Unfortunately, eight shoulder dislocations prompted her early retirement from racing and she has been working with a smaller clientele of domestic animals for the past few years!

Caitlin is not currently sharing her life with any furry family members, so is even more likely to treat your precious pet as her own during their stay in hospital!

Caitlin is AQIS Accredited which means she is qualified to prepare your pet for an overseas adventure!

 

Dr Niamh Mc Gill BVSc

Niamh graduated from University College Dublin in June 2008 and has since been working as a small animal vet here in Australia. She began her career working in Geraldton and has since travelled all over Australia in a camper-van before arriving in Melbourne last Spring.

She has a specific interest in dermatology and neurology and has also spent the past 6 months working in a clinic which offers " alternative therapies" and so has gained valuable insight in this area. She aspires to do some further study in the area of safari animal medicine and conservation.

Niamh enjoys drama and singing in her spare time and is involved in the National Theatre drama group. She also loves eating out and exploring Melbourne's hotspots at the weekends!

 

Dr Helen O' Leary BVSc

Helen graduated from University College Dublin in June 2008. She started out her veterinary career in a busy animal hospital just outside London and spent a year there before venturing " Down Under " to travel and work.

She has spent the last 6 months working in a small animal clinic in Canberra but loves Melbourne and so hopes to spend the remainder of her time down here. Helen enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery.

In her spare time, Helen enjoys horse-riding, eating out and playing sport. Its worth mentioning that she captained the Irish netball team at one stage! She also enjoys socialising and is looking forward to experiencingall Melbourne has to offer.

 

Consultant Veterinarians

Dr Harold Pook BVSc MVSc

Harold graduated from Melbourne University in 1979. He undertook an intership and residency at Saskatoon from 1983-1986. During the next 9 years Harold had a position in Internal Medicine on faculty at Guelph University.

Since then Harold has been operating a mobile internal medicine and diagnostic service in Melbourne and Geelong. Harold performs Ultrasonography, Endoscopy, Oncology and other diagnostic procedures.

Harold has 2 King Charles Cavalier Spaniels. Out of work Harold enjoys cycling..

Dr Robert Hilton BVSc MACVSc CertVD MRCVS

Robert graduated with first class honours from the University of Melbourne in 1975. Between 1976 and 2000 he was in mixed then small animal practice, gaining a MACVSc qualification in canine medicine along the way. Since 2001 he has been focusing is professional activities on Veterinary Dermatology, his long time professional interest and now restricts his practice to Veterinary Dermatology.

In 2006 he successfully completed all the requirements and examinations of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology. Rob is a member of the Dermatology Chapter of the AustralasianCollege of Veterinary Scientists, the European Society for Veterinary Dermatology and an active member of Vetdermlist.

Rob’s particular interests include allergic skin disease and any other skin disease relating to dysfunction of the immune system. He is the author of several articles and clinical reviews and has given numerous seminars locally and further afield. Rob’s private interests include climbing mountains on foot or by skis and trying not to fall off on the way down.

Veterinary Nurses

Linda Wools

Senior Nurse

Linda is currently studying for her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. She has been nursing since 2006 and enjoys the close monitoring and care of hospital patients and assisting in surgery.

Linda has one very energetic Border Collie ,Sari, and a lazy ginger cat, Mick.

Linda loves visiting wineries, getting away with friends and relaxing on the couch with a good movie!


Caroline Burke

Senior Nurse


Caroline is a fully qualified UK Registered Veterinary nurse. She graduated from the University of Bristol in 2008 with a degree in Nursing and Practice Administration. She worked in a busy 24-hour hospital for 6 months before embarking on her travels.

Caroline has since been to India, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Sabah and Singapore, before arriving in Australia. She will stay in Australia for a year.

Caroline shares her boundless energy with us. She also has good animal handling skills, excellent knowledge in laboratory techniques, surgical and medical nursing.

 

 

Marissa May

Senior Nurse

Marissa is a Certificate IV qualified nurse.

Marissa just returned from a big work and travel adventure in the UK. She is a compassionate and competant, with many years' experience as a head nurse in the eastern suburbs in Melbourne.

 

Mikala Smith

Trainee Nurse

Mikala is our trainee nurse. She is currently studying for her cert IV in veterinary nursing. Her favourite part of the job is getting to know and playing with the clients pets.

She has 2 cats called 'pumpkin' and 'pancakes' and a budgie called 'scrambles'

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chiara Perri

Chiara is a certified veterinary nurse, having completed her Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services in 2006. She is a fully accredited Delta Instructorand Assessor. Chiara is now running our puppy preschool classes at Flemington Veterinary Hospital .Chiara also offers private behavioural consultations for problems in the home.

Chiara’s classes are all based on positive training methods using rewards and praise and working towards building a working relationship.

The puppy pre school classes are run for an hour once a week, over 5 weeks.

 

Groomers

Suzanna Alves

Suzanna is your local dog beautician. She has over 7 years experience as a qualified dog groomer and has spent the last 5 years grooming and beautifying dogs at FVH.

Suzanna’s passion is rewarded with the friendly relationships she develops with clients and from watching the pets grow over many years of pampering.

She specialises in individually stylized looks to compliment your pet’s character. If it’s short back and sides or a full show clip ready for the Royal Melbourne Show, Suzanna can accommodate to your needs.

Suzanna loves of all types of animals and has a pet rabbit, with a fabulous personality, named ‘Bunny ‘.

Tineke Huy  

Tineke is a friendly and bubbly character. She cares deeply for all animals and has turned that passion into a mutli-branched career. She gained her Certificate Three in Track Work and Stable Hand in 2006 and now wakes early mornings at 4 am to ride racehorses (track work) in Kilmore. More recently she has found enjoyment in dog grooming and gained her Certificate late last year.

For Tineke, the most rewarding aspect of grooming dogs for clients is trying to perfect new cuts. Tineke is also a qualified Personal Trainer and enjoys camping and socialising with friends.Tineke has recently started veterinary nursing at FVH.
