In early January, Neville—a brave 1-year-old cat—came to us with a degloving injury on his left front paw. One of his digits had exposed bone, and we were unsure if it could be saved or if amputation would be necessary.
From January 6th to the end of the month, Neville came in for twice-weekly bandage changes. Initially, these procedures required sedation due to the severity of the injury and pain. But as the wound began to heal, we were able to switch to a much gentler approach using gabapentin and his favourite: churu treats.
As Neville grew more comfortable, we taught his amazing family how to continue the bandage changes at home. They did an incredible job.
He returned on February 25th for a check-up—and to our delight, the wound had healed completely. No surgery. No amputation. Just patience, care, and a whole lot of teamwork (plus a few churu bribes).
